A 1,419-page scanned book, back in editable Word

You can read a scanned PDF, but you can't edit it.

You can't fix a typo, move an exercise or change the type size, and a publisher who keeps putting out and updating courses needs to do all three.

The job was to give him the book back in Word, editable and with its structure intact.

What came in and what went out

1,419 pages went in and 637 came out, with all 69 illustrations placed. The cut was the client's call: he asked us to drop the original's repeated drills, and choosing which ones meant going through the whole book.

A file he can keep working in

• A Word file with a style sheet: redesigning the whole book takes one style change.
• Tables that can be corrected, sorted and widened like any Word table.
• We delivered it module by module, and the client reviewed each one as we went.
